Project Summary
In 2014, I was hired by Misty Taggart of Trailer To The Stars to compose music and provide full audio post-production for Green Kids Club, an animated children’s series commissioned by Sylvia Medina and Green Kids Club, Inc. The series was developed as an extension of Green Kids Club’s existing book and product line, which teaches children about environmental stewardship, wildlife conservation, and our responsibility to help preserve the earth. Green Kids Club’s own description of the property centers on children who drink water from a magic spring and gain the ability to communicate with animals while learning about habitat loss, endangered species, poaching, drought, and other environmental challenges.
Misty brought decades of animation-writing experience to the project, having previously written for series including He-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Fraggle Rock. By the time we worked together, she was based in Arizona and operating Trailer To The Stars, a production company primarily focused on marketing trailers for authors, while also returning to animation through Green Kids Club.
For the series, I composed the original score, wrote and performed the opening theme song, sourced and recorded sound effects, designed the full soundscape, and mixed/mastered all four completed episodes. I also hired singer/songwriter Jennifer Yeung to perform the female vocal part in the opening theme duet, and Misty contributed the lyrics.
Musically, the series gave me an opportunity to build a small animated world through recurring musical themes and character-based motifs. Each episode featured musical ideas tied to locations, environmental themes, and featured characters, including Victor and Maya—the main human characters—as well as the animal characters they meet along the way. The central theme motif was also adapted to fit the setting of each episode; for example, the episode “Coral Reef” closes with a Belizean-inspired version of the show’s opening theme.
The premise follows Victor and Maya as they drink magical water that allows them to speak directly with animals and learn firsthand about threats to their habitats. In later episodes, they share the magical water with friends, allowing others to experience the same connection with nature and wildlife.
I’ve included a sample from the fourth episode, “Coral Reef,” along with several musical compositions featured throughout the series.

Although the series concluded after four produced episodes, the project received recognition in 2014 when Green Kids Club products, including the Green Spring Cartoon, were listed among Dr. Toy’s Best Green Products for 2014.
